I was fifteen years old when I purchased my first share of stock. At first, I was drawn to the excitement of the stock market. Over time, however, I became far more interested in the businesses behind the stock prices. I wanted to understand how great companies were built, how capital should be allocated, and why some organizations created value over decades while others disappeared.
That curiosity led me to spend years reading annual reports, studying the writings of long-term investors, and learning from professors, business owners, and investment professionals. Along the way, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Virginia, where independent study and close mentorship further shaped my approach to investing.
I established Whitener Associates as the vehicle through which I pursue that work. Today, I oversee the Company's investment research, capital allocation, portfolio management, and shareholder communications.
